Terms of Use

Version 1.3.0 · Published: 13 October 2026 · In force from 1 March 2027 · Until then version 1.2.0 applies · Version 1.1.0 (archived)
Upcoming version — in force from 1 March 2027. Until then, the current Terms of Use (version 1.2.0) apply. Version 1.3.0 applies to you only once you accept it in the App. What changes and why: Prices, what Pro includes and your statutory rights do not change.
These Terms apply to your use of the Attenya app and of Attenya Pro. They supplement Apple’s Standard End User License Agreement (Apple EULA). If these Terms and the Apple EULA conflict, the provision that is more favourable to you applies. Mandatory consumer law always prevails: nothing in these Terms limits the mandatory consumer rights of the country you live in.

1. Who we are

Attenya (the “App”) is provided by Laurenz Zuser, sole proprietor, Dorotheergasse 6–8, 1010 Vienna, Austria (“we”, “us”). Email: support@attenya.app. Further provider details are in the Imprint.

You accept these Terms when you confirm them in the App (for example with “Agree & continue”). The App stores this confirmation only on your device. Silence or continued use never counts as acceptance (see Section 14).

2. What Attenya is

Attenya is a self-control and digital-wellbeing tool. You choose which apps to protect, and Attenya keeps them locked using Apple’s Screen Time / FamilyControls features. By completing focus sessions you earn credit, which you can spend on deliberate unlocks of your protected apps (some versions of the App call these “withdrawals”). When an unlock ends, protection returns automatically. You decide which apps you protect and how you use the App.

3. Not a medical, safety or security product

Attenya is not a medical device and does not diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any condition, including problematic technology use, addiction or any mental-health condition. It provides no medical, psychological, legal or financial advice. If you have health concerns, please talk to a qualified professional. Attenya is not a parental-control, monitoring or security product and must not be relied on for safety-critical purposes.

4. How blocking works — limits and emergency exit

Attenya’s blocking relies on Apple’s Screen Time / FamilyControls frameworks, which we do not control. Blocking can be interrupted or bypassed, for example by iOS or framework changes, device restarts, low-power conditions, system settings or your own actions (such as turning off Screen Time access). We build Attenya with care and fix errors within the scope of our statutory obligations, but we cannot promise that blocking will always be uninterrupted or impossible to bypass. Please do not rely on Attenya where an interruption could cause harm.

When you open a protected app, iOS shows a shield screen designed by Attenya. Depending on the version of the App, it may show information such as your current credit or how often you have resisted today, and a button to open Attenya. Because iOS does not let the shield open apps directly, this button sends you a local notification; tap it to open Attenya.

Emergency exit — you are never locked in. If you ever need a protected app immediately and cannot wait, you can remove every restriction at once: delete Attenya (removing the App releases all Screen Time restrictions it set), or turn off the App’s Screen Time / FamilyControls access in iOS Settings → Screen Time. Attenya only restricts the apps you choose; it does not lock your device, and it cannot disable iOS emergency calling — Emergency SOS and dialling emergency numbers always remain available.

5. No guaranteed outcomes

Attenya is a tool, not a promise of results. We make no guarantee regarding focus, productivity, reduced screen time or any particular personal outcome.

6. Who can use Attenya

We set no age limit of our own beyond Apple’s requirements for an Apple Account and the App’s age rating in the App Store. Attenya is not directed at children under 13. If you are a minor, please use Attenya only with the permission of a parent or guardian; purchases by minors are subject to the parental and family settings of their Apple Account (for example “Ask to Buy”). Attenya is a personal self-control tool and is not designed for supervising other people.

Please do not use the App unlawfully, do not interfere with its security or integrity, and do not reverse engineer, decompile or modify it, except where the law allows this despite this restriction.

7. Free and Pro

You can use the core of Attenya free of charge, without a subscription. Attenya Pro adds further features. Which features belong to Free and which to Pro is shown in the App’s Free/Pro comparison before you buy. For a subscription, the comparison shown when you subscribe describes what Pro includes; Section 13 explains how Pro may change. We may change the free version with updates.

From time to time we may give you Attenya Pro free of charge for a limited period (for example a Pro week). We show you the period in the App; it ends automatically, costs nothing and never turns into a paid subscription. During such a period you use Attenya free of charge within the meaning of Section 14.4.

8. Buying Attenya Pro

8.1 Purchase through Apple

Attenya Pro is offered through Apple’s In-App Purchase as an auto-renewable subscription (monthly or yearly) and as a one-time purchase. Apple processes the payment and, depending on your country, acts as our agent, as commissionaire or as reseller / merchant of record. Apple’s Media Services Terms also apply to the purchase. We do not receive your payment details.

8.2 Price

The price that applies is the price, including any applicable taxes, that the App Store shows you before you confirm the purchase. Prices can differ between countries.

8.3 Subscriptions

8.4 Free trial

If the App Store offers you a free trial, it is available only to eligible Apple Accounts (Apple confirms eligibility before you start; generally one introductory offer per Apple Account). The length of the trial and the price that applies afterwards are shown before you start. Unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends, the trial converts into a paid subscription and the first payment is charged when the trial ends. If you cancel during the trial, you will not be charged; Apple may end your trial access when you cancel. If the App offers to remind you before a trial ends, that reminder is an optional courtesy that depends on your notification settings — it does not change the cancellation deadline.

8.5 Offers and codes

We may offer time-limited discounts or offer codes. Their conditions (eligibility, discount, duration, expiry) are shown before you redeem them. After a discounted period, the subscription renews at the then-applicable regular price unless you cancel at least 24 hours before.

8.6 One-time purchase

The one-time purchase is a single payment with no trial, no renewal and no recurring charge. It unlocks all features of Attenya Pro — including Pro features we add in later versions of the App. “One-time” describes the billing; it is not a promise that the App will be available or supported indefinitely or on every future iOS version (see Sections 11, 13 and 15). We will not take away Pro features you have unlocked because we change our prices or stop selling the one-time purchase. Any separate product that is not part of Attenya Pro would be clearly labelled as such before purchase. If you buy the one-time purchase while a subscription is active, the subscription is not cancelled automatically — please cancel it in your Apple Account.

8.7 Family Sharing

Whether a purchase can be shared through Apple Family Sharing is shown in the App Store. If it can, family members may use Pro on their own devices under Apple’s Family Sharing rules; Section 6 applies to each of them.

8.8 Restoring purchases

Pro is linked to the Apple Account you used to buy it. On a new device, tap “Restore purchases” in the App. Deleting the App does not cancel a subscription.

8.9 Withdrawal and refunds

Because the purchase is processed by Apple, you exercise any statutory right of withdrawal and request refunds through Apple (reportaproblem.apple.com), as described in Apple’s Media Services Terms. We cannot issue App Store refunds ourselves. Your statutory rights of withdrawal, warranty and refund remain unaffected (see also Section 11).

9. In-app credit

Credit, balances, the vault, crystals, streaks and similar values in Attenya are time counters for your own self-control. They have no monetary value, cannot be bought, sold, transferred or paid out, and are lost if you delete the App or reset your data, unless they are restored from a device backup.

10. Intellectual property and licence

The App, the name “Attenya”, the logo, the design and the content are owned by us or our licensors and are protected by law. The Apple EULA grants you a personal, non-transferable licence to use the App; these Terms do not transfer any ownership to you.

11. Statutory warranty

If you are a consumer, your statutory warranty rights for digital content apply. This includes the right to receive the updates, including security updates, that are needed to keep the App in conformity with the contract (for consumers in Austria in particular under the Austrian Consumer Warranty Act, VGG). Depending on your country, these rights are directed against Apple or against us as your contracting party for the purchase. In any case, please contact us first at support@attenya.app — we will help. We give no additional guarantee beyond these statutory rights.

12. Liability

13. Changes to the App

14. Changes to these Terms

14.1 When we may change these Terms

We change these Terms only for one of the following reasons, and only as far as that reason requires:

A change must not shift the balance between your rights and ours to your disadvantage. We do not use this section to change prices, what Pro includes or your statutory rights: prices are governed by Section 8, changes to the App and to Pro by Section 13.

14.2 How we tell you

We publish a new version on attenya.app, with its version number and effective date, at least 30 days before it takes effect. We also announce it in the App with a summary of what changes and why; you can find this announcement again in the App under Settings → Privacy & legal. Previous versions remain available on attenya.app.

14.3 Only your express consent counts

A new version applies to you only if you expressly accept it in the App (for example with “Agree & continue”). We never treat silence, continued use of the App or the renewal of a subscription as acceptance. Until you accept, the version you accepted last continues to apply to you; for free use, Section 14.4 also applies. Only purely editorial corrections that do not change the meaning (such as typos or updated contact details) and changes that are solely to your advantage can apply without your acceptance; we record these in the version history too. The App stores your decision only on your device.

14.4 Free use

If you use Attenya free of charge — including during a free Pro period under Section 7 — continuing to use it requires that you accept the new version. From the effective date — or, if that is later, from 14 days after we first showed you the new version in the App — the App asks you to accept or decline it before you can continue. If you decline, the App pauses: it no longer locks your apps, schedules and reminders stop, and a running focus session ends with the time you have already focused credited. Nothing is deleted. While the App is paused, you can export or delete your data, accept the new version at any time to pick up where you left off, or stop using the App by deleting it.

14.5 Paid Pro

If you have Attenya Pro through a subscription (including a free trial through the App Store), a one-time purchase or Apple Family Sharing, your access to Pro and to the App never depends on accepting a new version. The version you accepted last continues to apply to you, also when your subscription renews. The App may remind you of the new version from time to time; you can close the reminder at any time (“Keep my current Terms”). If you later use Attenya only free of charge, Section 14.4 applies from then on.

14.6 Your statutory rights

Mandatory law prevails: if the law of your country gives you further rights in connection with changes to these Terms, those rights apply.

15. Ending use and discontinuation

You can stop using Attenya at any time by deleting it. Deleting the App does not cancel a subscription — cancel it in Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions.

If we stop offering Attenya Pro subscriptions, subscriptions will no longer renew, and you keep Pro until the end of the period you have paid for. If we stop developing Attenya altogether, we will announce this in the App in good time where possible. The App may then no longer receive updates and may at some point stop working on newer iOS versions. Your statutory rights — including warranty and updates for the period you can reasonably expect — remain unaffected; refunds are processed through Apple.

16. Privacy

Attenya works without an account. How we handle personal data — for example when you contact support — is explained in our Privacy Policy.

17. Governing law, jurisdiction and dispute resolution

These Terms are governed by Austrian law, excluding the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. If you are a consumer, this choice of law does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory provisions of the law of the country where you habitually reside. Mandatory rules on jurisdiction in your favour remain unaffected.

We are not obliged and generally not willing to take part in dispute-resolution proceedings before a consumer arbitration board. The EU Online Dispute Resolution platform was discontinued on 20 July 2025.

18. Additional information where we are the seller (e.g. United States)

In some countries, including the United States, Canada and Australia, Apple sells Attenya Pro as our agent; we are then the seller. There, too, Apple handles billing and cancellation: Section 8 sets out the material terms of the subscription, including automatic renewal and how to cancel, and you can cancel online at any time in your Apple Account without contacting us. Mandatory consumer-protection laws of your state or country remain unaffected.

19. Language and severability

These Terms are available in English and German. Both versions are equally binding. If they differ, the meaning that is more favourable to you as a consumer applies.

If a provision of these Terms is invalid, the remaining provisions stay valid, and the invalid provision is replaced by the applicable statutory rules.
